Project Description:

My work will use a lot of compositing in order to construct compositions that are fragmented into a binary space consisting of above water shots of human forms and below water images that peer inside human anatomy to show a recreated world that does not link up with contemporary anatomical models. The figures will also be fragmented creating confusion between what the self is and what is the other. I will finally use these digital images as references for a larger sized series of paintings.

Conceptual Concerns:

I will be working with the human form, particularly focusing on the physical nature of the body. I will be working with the notions of artificially constructed boundaries that are created through psychological projections. My work will also engage in recreating internal and external realities of the human body through the means of light, imagination and memory.

Technical Skills Covered

I will master the ability to light situations consistently so as to composite varied elements of the human form in one cohesive environment. I will also learn to composite seamlessly so as to give the work an overall aesthetic ambiance that is not distracting. I will then subvert this in order to show the unnecessary quality of consistency.

Formal Guidelines:

I will make five digital images that will then be reconstructed as oil paintings which will all be 24” x 32”, except for the fifth and final painting which will be of a larger (yet to be determined) format. My project will be due near the end of semester( yet to be specifically determined.) Im thinking I might change my mind though- my project might never be completed or it could change course right in the middle and lead me to some completely other destination.

Grade

My grade should be based on a combination between how much I have learned or progressed from the first photo

to the last, and how aesthetically and intellectually challenging the work is from an outside perspective.

Goals List

-make preliminary sketches to start my initial idea for the project.

-take test photo shots in order to come to initial ideas of formal elements.

-make more in depth sketches.

-hire a model and take a photo shoot remembering the importance of lighting and setting.

-scan in found images remembering to scan at a high resolution.

-work out final compositions on Photoshop by compositing and using other Photoshop tools that I learn along the way.

- make oil paintings from these Photos on larger panels.
